John Fery, born Johann Nepomuk Levy, was an Austrian immigrant artist who achieved fame in America for his landscape paintings of the American West, especially in Glacier National Park. He studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts and the Munich Royal Academy of Fine Arts, and was hired to work on panorama paintings in Milwaukee. He also explored Yellowstone National Park, the Hudson River Valley, and the Rockies, and painted for the Fitger Brewing Company and the Great Northern Railway. His work was seen in many exhibitions and catalogs, and his legacy lives on.
